To Participant:
Thank you for registering to participate in the Ambulance Parambulation Datathon, an event brought to you by Ai Kenya (“Organizer”) and Uber(“Title sponsor”) taking place on October 17th – 18th , 2020 (the “Datathon”). The Datathon is a 2 day competition to bring people from different disciplines together in teams for one weekend to collaborate on solving a defined problem challenge using machine learning and data science. By participating in this Datathon, you agree to the following terms. You agree that your participation in this contest constitutes acceptance of these terms, which are legally binding on you. Participation in the Datathon and eligibility for any prizes is contingent upon your agreement to these terms.
1. Eligibility, Judging and Prizes.
Registration for the event is free of charge. The problem challenge being solved can be found on the event description or on the specified online competition on the Zindi website (www.zindi.africa).
● Eligibility and Process.
- The Datathon is open to individuals: (a) who are at least eighteen years old, and (b) who have an interest in using data science and machine learning to solve problems.
- Datathon participants must make their own travel and accommodation arrangements and cover all associated costs and expenses.
- All participants will be required to comply with Covid-19 event measures that will be effected for the 2 days as indicated in the next section.
- Each Participant must supply his/her own laptop to participate.
- Internet and seating will be provided.
- Each entry must: (a) be original, (b) be the Participant’s or the Participant team’s own original creation and newly written during the Datathon, and (c) not previously entered in any other competition or program similar to the Datathon. “Newly written” means that participants cannot in any way copy
any material or any software code that already exists, and submit it as part of an entry.
● Judging / Scoring
- All entries will be automatically scored and ranked by the Zindi platform.
Prizes:
- Prizes are based on the entry and awarded to the Participant or participating Team submitting the entry. Prizes will only be awarded to the participants who will be physically present at the hackathon. The prize pool is as follows for the best 5 submissions/ solutions from the Datathon:
1st position KES 50,000.00
2nd position KES 30,000.00
3rd position KES 20,000.00
4th position KES 10,000.00
5th position KES 10,000.00
- The Prize Awards specified above are the only compensation for participation in and submission of entries to the Datathon for the best 5 solutions.
- Employees of Uber, Zindi, Ai Kenya, WorldBank and Flare are not eligible to participate in the datathon.
2. Covid-19 Measures
In line with the current Covid-19 outbreak, interested participants should stick to the following precautions that apply to this event:
- Come to the event with a mask and put it on at all times during the event.
- Stay home if you have tested positive for Covid -19 or are presenting Covid-19 symptoms.
- Stay home and monitor your health if you have had a close contact with a person who has symptoms of COVID-19 within the past 14 days.
- Frequent handwashing or hand sanitizing is encouraged, as per the resources that will be provided during the event.
3. Intellectual Property and Submissions.
- You represent and warrant that your submissions: (a) are your original works created by you, (b) do not and will not violate the rights of any third party or infringe any third-party intellectual property rights, (c) are not obscene, libelous or defamatory, (d) will not violate any laws, and (e) do not contain any viruses, worms, spyware, or other components designed to harm or impair the functionality of
computers or systems. You waive any rights of publicity, rights of privacy, intellectual property rights, and any other legal or moral rights that might prevent the Organizer and/or host from using any information you provide in this contest. - You agree and covenant that you will not assert, support or authorize any action or claim against the organizers or their affiliates on the basis of your intellectual property rights or moral rights in your submission.
- You hereby grant to the Organizer and host and their affiliates a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to feature your entry and use your name and image, and any content, statement, interview or other materials relating to your participation in this contest in connection with the publication, marketing, or promotion (including photos, videos or written materials) of this Datathon in all media (now known or later developed).
4. Property.
- You are required to and responsible for bringing your own equipment (such as laptop) necessary to participant in the Datathon.
- Organizer will provide Participants datasets for use during and solely for the purpose of participating in the Datathon. You agree to use the datasets solely for the approved purposes.
- At its discretion, Organizer and/or Host may provide Participants limited access to equipment, software, and other property (including intellectual property, materials, and confidential information). You agree that the Organizer and/or Host and/or their licensees, if applicable, retain exclusive ownership of their respective property, including all modifications, improvements and derivative works that you or others create of their respective intellectual property.
5. Miscellaneous.
- You agree that the Organizer and/or Sponsor may make available, upon request, the names and counties of residence(if need be) of the prize winners.
- You agree to indemnify the Organizer and its affiliates, and their employees, officers, and directors against all liabilities, damages, losses, expenses and fees (including attorney fees) relating to any claims or actions by any third party arising out of: (a) your violation of any third party’s rights, or (b) your acts or omissions in the contest.
